Well last month saw the return of some stormy weather and although we didn't have to cancel much diving we weren't always able to dive our first choice, the plankton seems to be lingering also and has formed a "layer"at about 12m to block out all of the light.....still clear but dark! .However we have had some great dives and the "Ezra Weston " has been visited by us recently and a new wreck near Hartland point was dived in low viz, this was a very big wreck but we were not able to identify it , so we must go back again soon.

Diving the past few weeks has been awesome! that is why I haven't updated this site for a while. I have been very busy taking mainly Tri-Mix divers to much deeper and unexplored wrecks than ever before diving to a max of 86m this week we took a few shots, thanks to all who contributed these pics, and just look at the viz stunning

Last weekend saw the arrival of summer! thank goodness, we had light winds, calm seas, great viz and Dolphins !! on Saturday we dived the "REWA" now this is always a great dive and Saturdays dive was no exception, the shot was in the boilers and most of the team focussed their dive in that area. on Monday we dived a wreck called the Obdam in 50m on a high water the viz was at least 20m and was an awesome dive the wreck is laid out perfectly below you and the gun mounted on the bow made a stunning sight excellent.

While waiting for the tide we were visited by about 7 dolphins frolicking in the shallows just outside the harbour. they stayed all day and proved a super sight for everyone thanks to Mike Ades for the pic's

This weekend saw a group of divers known as "Seastyle" led by Lesley Harper, we dived the Syracusa on Saturday and with only about 8m viz I was disappointed, but everyone enjoyed the dive, however there was a little stress when the toilet decided to block and despite putting 300bar of nitrox through the pipe- whatever it was would not move!!!. Sunday saw another sunny but blustery day and we dived the Orfordness, a great dive and the viz was much better, so I am sure everyone enjoyed their first trip to Newquay

I've been very busy this past 2 weeks and I have seen everyone from London Zoo, counting plankton, to deep tri-mix diving on the Rewa. And a very interesting couple of weeks it has been......The viz is still excellent and on Monday we dived the Anna Sophie with "Tolgus Dive Club" who are a motley bunch as you can see...Thanks to Shaun for the pics...

Good News the viz is back, this evening we dived the Onega with Tolgus Dive Club, and O.K. it was a bit breezy and bumpy but it was a stunning dive the viz was about 14m so everyone was happy, (except Dennis who did his usual calling for "Hewey" many times.  so the plankton has gone to wherever the plankton goes, and has left us with the clear water we are used to GREAT

This weekend saw a group of tri-mix divers well known to me and we dived an unknown wreck on Saturday in about 73m, unfortunately the first shot missed and I had to re-shot the wreck so only 1/2 of the team got on the wreck and although the viz was poor the were able to see a large stern section but not a lot else

On Saturday with a team led by Mike Ades we located and dived the vessel above, This is the Clan McNab, a 4,500ton bulk stores carrier known as a "Turret Ship" because of her design, from 1918, which was torpedoed off Pendeen in 76m , this is the first time this wreck has been dived and so we intend to dive it again soon to discover more about its history so watch this space

On Sunday with the tide difference we dived the Lake Owen , an American cargo vessel torpedoed off Trevose in 1918, the depth was about 53m but the viz was only about 4m very poor

Above is a selection of pictures from the weekend, I particularly like the "Bent Diver" cheers Mark !!

This weekend saw a group from Warwick and Leamington Spa, O.K. the weather was not at its best we had to postpone the morning dive on Saturday but we did dive the Syracusa in the afternoon, the viz was excellent and everyone ( who dived) enjoyed it. The weather on Sunday was slightly better at least everyone got a suntan! and we dived the Orfordness at 33m the viz was stunning, about 15m and everyone enjoyed the dive again we then did a second dive in the Gazzell and 3 of the divers saw a Sea Horse which was amazing so a great weekend by all accounts

This weekend saw another group keen to sample the delights of North Cornwall and they weren't disappointed a group from Portsmouth University joined me for the weekend and we did 3 dives one on the Syracusa and one on the Orfordness, and another drift on a reef all about 30m the viz was not at its best due to a heavy plankton bloom but seeing dolphins on the way to the dive on Sunday made everybody's weekend.

We dived Pol-Texas Reef in the afternoon and although the viz was not as good as the morning dive everyone enjoyed it. Tomorrow we plan to dive the Syracusa lets hope the weather holds Well it did( just ) and we dived the Syracusa at 30m an excellent dive as usual .a really good weekend for all.

The Viz today was about 7m on the Ezra Weston at 53m and everyone enjoyed the dive apart from Dave as his camera battery decided to give up the ghost after about 10 mins never mind Dave, better luck next time but it was a good shake down dive for the crew, the boat and myself, so lets get stuck into the 2005 season

Well here we are at the end of August and what a fantastic few weeks diving we have had, we have seen and dived with Basking Sharks almost every day and seen many Porpoise and Dolphins, in fact I can honestly say that I have never seen so much wildlife than I have seen this year .It has been fantastic. ..only today we dived the Ezra Weston a Liberty Ship in 53m and we must have seen 70 Porpoise, jumping and playing in our wake.

Diving this month has been hectic, we dived the "Armenian" on the highest spring tide of the year (and learned a valuable lesson ) and decided there was too much tide in fact we didn't get a slack !!

We have dived a new wreck the "Poldown" in 35m and this has proved very interesting for the shallower end of the divers  lots of shell cases have been seen but for reasons of safety I have asked for them not to be recovered

I suppose the highlight of the month has to be last weekend when we dived a wreck in 65m about 20 mile west of Newquay and one of the divers recovered a Bell super and then the following day with the same group we were lucky enough to recover a very large Telegraph from a different wreck please look at this months pics for your enjoyment

I forgot to mention that we have seen many Basking Sharks and thanks to Andy Dowsland for the Pic.

I have been running out of Padstow for the past few weeks as the wrecks which I have been diving have been easier to reach from there, (this has nothing to do with the massive increase in diesel prices !!.) and one of the new wrecks to be dived has been identified as U 1021, this is a second WW U boat which has hit a mine and had its bow blown off this is a stunning and very moving dive as many German sailors lost their lives when she sank...U boat expert Innes Mcartney has dived the wreck with me and was an integral part of the team who helped identify this and other U boats in this area.

Also this month I have had a team of divers from Canada over here to dive the wreck of the HMCS Regina, she was a Canadian Corvette during the 2nd WW escorting a convoy when she was hit by a torpedo. the wreck lies in about 53m about 20 mile North of Newquay. This has been a very interesting story and we even had some survivors of the sinking who laid a wreath on the wreck as divers raised a flag an laid a commemorative plaque actually on the wreck, this was a particularly moving day for all concerned

This picture shows divers raising a Canadian Flag on the wreck of the HMCS Regina note the plaque at the base of the flag. (picture courtesy of Mark Brill.)

O.K. still waiting to get the pictures of the Rewa to you Web technology can be a long processor is it expensive?

Atlantic Diver has been lifted out and is on the Quay at Newquay. Her engine is in Birmingham, courtesy of Tim Brown , having major heart surgery, or is it a rebuild so thanks to Tim for that.

We have just heard that we now have full planning for the foreseeable future to accommodate diving parties here in the bunkhouses, so I expect your bookings for 2006 a.s.a.p thanks to all of you who helped there

2005
Well here we are in the 2005 season. We dived the Syracusa on Friday with Tolgus Dive Club, and despite the poor viz, everyone enjoyed themselves, allthough Roger did have a moan about the weather, viz, tea, lack of beer, bad skipper, and the government nothing new there then but it was nice to see everyone, and how glad I am to get a new season under way so welcome to 2005!!!!!!
